Golf in Sun Valley
It’s Tee Time!
The sun is up! The birds are chirping! You’ve hit Starbucks for your morning cup of Joe, and the Kneadery for their signature French Toast. Grab your clubs! It’s tee time in Sun Valley, Idaho.
Here is what we know. Hitting the links in and around Ketchum is easy! The North Valley offers four golf courses coupled with world-class amenities.
- The critically acclaimed Trail Creek Championship Golf Course is a mainstay of America’s first destination resort. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr, this 18-hole course features over 6900 yards of impeccably manicured greens and fairways surrounded by gorgeous mountain views. From rolling fairways and sand traps to Mother Nature’s natural water features, a round of golf at Trial Creek will challenge your skills and inspire your swing.
- On a different level, both literally and figuratively, the White Cloud Golf Course plays up into the hills overlooking Sun Valley and Ketchum. Boasting 3600 yards and 9 holes, the course was designed by Don Knotts and is an impressive mix of Idaho’s harsh terrain, steep elevations, and unbelievable panoramic views. The White Clouds offer back-to-back par 5’s, a 637-yard 5th hole, and its first and last holes on the lower ground. Golfers walk away awe-struck. If this sounds spectacular, it’s because it is!
- A 2004 renovation of the Elkhorn Golf Course resulted in fairways and greens worthy of a nod. A collaboration between the father-son design team of Robert Trent Jones Senior and Junior, Elkhorn re-opened as a semi-private club in 2005. In 2011, the golf course was acquired by the Sun Valley Company adding to the valley’s golf options. Yes, the public can still play a round. However, restrictions do apply with priority tee times going to members and homeowners of Elkhorn and Sun Valley. Whether focused on handicapping, a bogey, a birdie, or an eagle, practice makes perfect. Sun Valley’s new 25-acre practice facility and its 18-hole Sawtooth Putting Course will get your game under par. In the center of it all is the beautiful Sun Valley Club which is open to the public for lunch, drinks on the terrace, a pro shop, locker rooms, club rental, and club storage. For tee times, fees, club rentals, virtual golf, and more call the Sun Valley Club at 208-622-2251.
- If you want to play like a local, Big Wood Golf Course will do the trick. Slightly north of Ketchum, Big Wood offers 9 holes and a self-contained driving range that operates from dawn until dusk. Golfers have the option of a seasonal membership or to drop in by day. With a Pro Shop, as well as lunch, happy hour and dinner available at the Bigwood Grill, you cannot go wrong. Book a tee time with Bigwood Golf Course by calling: 208-726-4024. (Bigwood Golf Course is under renovation from Sept 2024 to Spring 2025. The driving range remains open until it snows.)
As we said before – The sun is up! You are ready to go! It’s tee time!
